Midnight Mani Tips: Avoid Polish Smudges Overnight

Tell me if this sounds familiar: You don’t have time in your busy schedule to do your nails during the day, but you want your nails to look their best for tomorrow. You decide to pull off the classic midnight mani, slapping on some polish before going to sleep. You awake the next morning to your worst nightmare—smudges all over your new nails. What now?

We’ve all been there, which is why we’re giving you our tips to avoid polish smudges overnight. Forget about sheet marks and denting while you’re fast asleep. The midnight mani can be done damage-free, so long as you follow these tips.

Tip #1: Opt for a Rapid-Drying Polish

If you’re not aware of ZOYA PixieDust, it’s a matte, textured glitter polish that is extremely fast-drying. The formula also doesn’t require a base coat or top coat, so it’s ideal for midnight manicures. Just put on a coat or two before bed and you’ll feel the polish quickly texturize into a fully-dry manicure in just a few minutes. You can stop here and go to bed, or finish with a top coat to smooth out the texture.

Tip #2: Use a Fast-Drying Top Coat

If you choose to use a normal polish color, a top coat is arguably the most important part of protecting your manicure from denting. If you use a fast-drying top coat like Ultra Glossy Seal, your manicure will be even more protected because the top coat itself is fast-drying and flexible.

Tip #3: Use Drying Drops

ZOYA Fast Drops speed up the dry time of your manicure. Just add a drop to each nail and move your fingers around to allow the drops to spread. Fast Drops will penetrate through your entire manicure to dry each layer faster. As an added bonus, these drops prevent wrinkles and bubbling in your polish.

Tip #4: Apply 2 Thin Coats

We recommend two thin coats of polish for most of our colors. In two coats, most colors will show their true opacity. Use a light hand with your application, because applying coats too thick will slow down the speed of your manicure, and could result in smearing when you apply a top coat.

The biggest mistake that causes you to wake up with marks and dents in your polish is not allowing enough time for your polish to fully dry. Most polish takes about 24 hours to dry, but if you use fast-drying top coats and drying drops, you can speed up the process. Even with these tips, it’s best to wait about 10 minutes before you move your hands about. Keep your nails still to avoid dings and dents as you do your nightly routine. Just waiting a few minutes can do wonders to avoid polish smudges.

Midnight manis don’t have to cause mishaps. Keep these tips in mind when you’re doing your nails before bed and you won’t have to worry about smudges in the morning.
