Smoosh Marble Mani Tutorial

“Smoosh” art is a popular nail trend so we thought we’d give it a try! There are a few methods to create this type of marble-inspired art but we went with the classic plastic bag trick. We used all 6 colors in the ZOYA Dreamin collection to get what we call a smoosh marble mani. It’s the perfect option for those that can’t pick just one of these dreamy summer shades. Watch the full tutorial or read our step-by-step instructions below!

What We Used:

ZOYA Dreamin’ Collection, Ultra Glossy Seal, plastic sandwich bag, barrier for skin (you can use tape or a latex barrier), precision brush.

Dreamin’ shades include: Summer, Mateo, Polly, Darla, Desi, Skipper. Get the bundle!

Step 1: Apply Your Base Colors

After you have prepped your nails with a base coat (we used Naked Base), apply one coat of ZOYA Darla to all 10 fingers. This will be the base shade.

Step 2: Add Color Drops

Carefully drop varying dots of all 6 colors on the nail, overlapping some and trying to cover most of the nail surface. Drop contrasting colors next to each other. We wanted ZOYA Summer to be an emphasis, so we used larger drops for that shade. Remember it doesn’t have to be perfect!

Step 3: Smoosh with Plastic Bag

While the drops you just did are still wet, take your plastic bag and gently fold over your nail. Gently press your finger over the bag to spread the colors around. Once the colors are smooshed, peel the plastic back. We recommend doing one nail at a time with steps 3 and 4 so that the drops of polish don’t dry before you smoosh them with the plastic bag. The beauty in this look is that all of the nails will have a slightly different marbled appearance but the colors used make them cohesive.

Step 4: Remove Tape or Skin Barrier and Clean Up

Remove the barrier you used for the skin around your nails. Using your precision brush, carefully clean up the edges of your nails with Remove +.

Step 5: Apply Top Coat

We recommend waiting a bit longer than you normally would for these nails to dry before putting on a top coat so you don’t smear the polish around more. After 5-10 minutes, apply the Ultra Glossy top coat for a dense, ultra-shiny finish to this look.
